A Kingdom of Lies
“The last thing you want to do here is contribute to a domino effect of decisions where suddenly you’re admitting you’re wrong about everything. That is why you gotta stand your ground on everything against the left, including on the [Abrego Garcia] situation.”
-A Trump advisor. Quote courtesy of Letters from an American
I’ve been a Jimi Hendrix fan since I was 12. In my younger years, what I loved most about Hendrix was listening to those blazing guitar solos. These days, when I’m in a Hendrix listening mood, it’s the songs I didn’t pay quite as much attention to that I find myself appreciating more. Songs like Castles Made of Sand:
There was a young girl whose heart was a frown
'Cause she was crippled for life and she couldn't speak a sound
And she wished and prayed she could stop living
So she decided to die
She drew her wheelchair to the edge of the shore
And to her legs she smiled, "You won't hurt me no more"
But then a sight she'd never seen made her jump and say
"Look, a golden winged ship is passing my way"
And it really didn't have to stop
It just kept on going
And so castles made of sand
Slips into the sea eventually (Italics mine)
If you know the entire song, then you know that the recurring theme is what happens to castles made of sand. Sometimes Jimi sees them slipping into the sea, other times melting or falling.
I suspect the same fate is what awaits castles built on lies, only without the beautiful lyrics. As noted more than once by numerous pundits, Trump doesn’t see himself so much as a president but as a king. And you can’t have a king without a kingdom, complete with fawning peasants and a castle. Otherwise, what’s the point, right?
But now the peasants are pissed, and it seems the Kingdom of Trump may be on shaky ground – at least for now. They’re pissed because the king lied to them and didn’t keep his word (well, actually, he has been lying to them and not keeping his word pretty much every minute of every hour of every day, but this may rank as the first lie that they really – and I do mean really - cared about). Trump promised them a Democrat scandal the likes of which they had never seen involving the very slimy and now dead Jeffrey Epstein, a former sexual predator pal of Trump’s. Attorney General Pam Bondi initially said she had the Epstein files on her desk and was reviewing them. But then something happened and…poof. No files. And no comment from Bondi. And then FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino began raging at Bondi because if she was lying about the files, then that would mean (gulp) that Trump was lying. And that would mean Bongino had effectively been lying to his conspiracy-crazed podcast fans, who were waiting for the release of those files he had promised would come any day now. So now, in a pathetic bid to save himself, Trump is trying to toss the hot potato back into Bondi’s lap, saying that she should release whatever credible (??!?) information she has on Epstein.
In other words, Bondi should make up something about how she miraculously and inexplicably overlooked that one file where President Joe Biden’s entire family were regulars at Epstein parties. Regular party animals. And then…and then…yeah. And then tell them she can’t share that file because it’s …uhhh classified. Yeah! That’s the ticket! It’s all classified!
“The last thing you want to do here is contribute to a domino effect of decisions where suddenly you’re admitting you’re wrong about everything. That is why you gotta stand your ground on everything against the left, including on the [Abrego Garcia] situation.”
Stand your ground against the left? No. You mean lie. Then lie some more. And when all else fails? Keep lying. Because Trump knows that if those Looney Tune followers of his base ever finally come to grips with the truth…?
