It has now been almost two years since the start of the 2nd Trump administration in January 2025. All presidents, whether liberal or conservative, are supposed to work for we the people. However, Trump only works for Trump, his family, and his wealthy friends.
Trump wants to be a dictator like those who promote from North Korea, Hungary, and China. He and those who work for him do almost nothing for the population. All he does is sign executive orders that promote laws that punish the regular people while enriching his friends and others in the administration.
This administration is only interested in self-enrichment, taking the wealth of the people and illegally using it for projects not approved by Congress, and public corruption and collusion.
Trump and the people in his administration are ignoring the Constitution and laws. There are three branches of the government on purpose, and each is supposed to be a check on the other two:
Legislative Branch (Article I) – Establishes Congress (the Senate and the House of Representatives) and its power to make laws.
Executive Branch (Article II) – Establishes the office of the President and Vice President and their power to enforce laws.
Judicial Branch (Article III) – Establishes the Supreme Court and lower federal courts to interpret laws.
Notice that the Constitution lists the Legislative Branch first because everyone is supposed to operate under the rule of law, including the president. The House and Senate can pass bills, but they do not become law until the president approves them, and the president also has veto power.
The Executive Branch is designed to enforce the laws passed by the Legislative Branch. Donald Trump has issued executive orders that benefit his rich friends, go against the Constitution, and attempt to destroy people who disagree with him.
The Judicial Branch includes the Supreme Court and the lower federal courts. The current Supreme Court has six conservative members, three of which were nominated by Donald Trump. Instead of interpreting the law, most of those federal justices rule in favor of letting Trump do whatever he wants.
Meanwhile, Trump is appointing his friends to government agencies. Almost all of his choices are totally unqualified for those positions. The only qualification Trump cares about is loyalty to him.
Trump has enhanced and celebrated his relationships with global dictators, especially Putin in Russia and Xi in China. He has destroyed our relationships with our allies, including Canada and Ukraine.
He has destroyed government property, including the East Wing of the White House and the Kennedy Center.
He has used government funds for his personal vanity projects while cutting SNAP benefits, health care, and student loan repayment programs, and laying off thousands of federal workers, most of whom are Black women.
As a retired educator, mother of six, and grandmother of two, I have also especially noticed hw Trump is totally the wrong role model for children and young people. He is a liar, a business failure, and an adjudicated rapist.
Trump thinks that “leadership” entails child name-calling, especially towards women in general and Black women in particular. He also posts AI videos of himself doing silly, stupid things, like healing people as if he were Jesus and fighting tigers in his suit.
He is an avowed racist. He started his political rise by insisting that Barack Obama was not born in the United States and insisting that Obama show his birth certificate. He called for the deaths of the “Central Park Five,” who were brown and Black men eventually found not guilty of the charges against them, but then showed empathy for the primarily white Cornell 7 men who raped a young woman and boasted about it.
He is calling for the criminal arrest, conviction, and deportation of Minnesota Somali-born Congressperson Ilhan Omar, who has won election to Congress four times. He has nothing that Rep. Omar has done criminally, except attempting to say that her father listed her age as 18 instead of 17 on her citizenship application. Rep. Omar has been an American citizen longer than either Melania Trump or Elon Musk, both of whom entered this country and worked illegally here before obtaining their citizenship.
What we need to do now is everything we can to keep Trump from doing his illegal and unethical activities. After the midterms, after which the Democrats are slated to gain majorities in the House and possibly the Senate, Trump will work to inflict more damage against our democracy, especially before the new Congress is sworn in next January.
We need to vote on or before November 3 for candidates committed to keeping Trump in line and working for policies that help their constituents instead of hurting them.
