What Do We Do Now?

This Choice post is going to be a little different than usual. I am angry and disgusted because we tried to tell you.
In 2016, far too many people believed the lies about Hillary and either voted 3rd party, voted independent, or voted “their conscience,” leading to Trump winning the Electoral College. We tried to tell you. Hillary and Barack warned people that it was “…the Supreme Court…,” but people didn’t listen.
Now we have a SCOTUS with three Trump-nominated justices, and the 5-4 far-right majority not only eliminated Roe but gave Trump as president unlimited immunity.
In 2024, people were mad about “Gaza,” not realizing that Joe and Kamala were already working on that issue for months. So they didn’t vote for Kamala or didn’t vote at all. Now we have Trump for a second time, and this time, it’s going to be worse, much worse. Everyone in his administration now will only be those who do everything he says and approve everything he does, no matter how bad or unconstitutional.
I will never forgive those people who essentially voted for Trump in 2016 and 2024.
I did not watch anything about the inauguration, but I do follow people who did watch.
On Day One, just as he promised, he made statements and signed executive orders that put America and a lot of the world in danger.
During his swearing-in, he sat his billionaire friends and other global far-right dictators in front of people from Congress who are his supporters.
He tried to eliminate birthright citizenship guaranteed in the 14th Amendment, but that can’t be done by Executive Order.
He declared that there is an “invasion” of criminals and drug cartels coming over the Southern border, and he is going to stop them. He is basically declaring war on Mexico, and he is trying to stop people legally seeking asylum.
He deleted the Spanish-language White House website.
He stopped the app that people use to legally get asylum appointments, and he canceled the flights scheduled for Monday for people from Afghanistan coming here legally, including minor children trying to reunite with their families here and Afghans who helped the U.S. military and are targeted by the Taliban.
He took down the website with information about reproductive rights. Ironically, on Monday morning, Cecile Richards, the former president of Planned Parenthood and the daughter of Ann Richards, the former governor of Texas, died of brain cancer.
He pardoned or commuted the sentences of all J6 criminals, including those who tried to kill Capitol police officers and VP Mike Pence, and immediately put them back on the street.
He promised to “take back” the Panama Canal, which is owned by the Panamanian government and is not controlled by China, as he stated.
He removed the United States of America from the World Health Organization, which is in charge of monitoring epidemics and pandemics, and from the Paris Climate Accord.
He changed the name “Gulf of Mexico” to “Gulf of America.”
He changed the native name of Mt. Denali in Alaska back to Mt. McKinley. President McKinley never even visited Alaska.
He removed the picture of former Chief of Staff Mark Milley from the wall with the pictures of all Joint Chiefs. President Biden gave General Milley a preemptive pardon.
He issued an Executive Order that said there are only two sexes, man and woman.
He rescinded the Biden policies that reduced the costs of medicines for those on Medicare and Medicaid.
He ordered that Trump appointees be given the highest security clearance without background checks.
He ordered officials to “lower prices.” That’s not how prices work.
Meanwhile, while speaking after the inauguration, Elon Musk gave the Nazi salute twice. Mainstream media labeled that event only as “unusual…”
Zuckerberg also automatically made Facebook people follow Trump’s new presidential page and that of J.D. Vance. You have to manually unfollow and block them on Facebook.
And that was only the first day. Today, January 21, Congress, with a Republican majority, has to start dealing with the debt ceiling.
So what can we do now?
Stay vigilant.
Watch where you get your “news.”
Learn what’s really in the Constitution.
Monitor your Congressional representatives.
Watch what is happening with the laws and policies in your state.
